Silverton Writing Workshops

During Valhalla Fine Arts Music Camps

August 6/7/8 and August 13/14/15

On Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday of each Valhalla Fine Arts Week, Keith Liggett will be offering a small group writers workshop.

Keith’s workshops are modeled on the traditional MFA group critique. By creating a safe environment for critique from peers, writers learn how others read their work and are able to make effective editorial changes. Because there is no overriding structure to the workshops, they are equally valuable for emerging writers and established writers. The critique level matches the writing. Keith tries to mix all the genres in one group—fiction, non-fiction, and poetry—believing that each genre has a unique and valuable perspective on the others.

The workshop sessions will be from 9am to 12noon. Those writers not busy in the afternoon will meet casually to discuss publishing and other writing issues.

The groups are limited to eight.

Tuition: $350

Full and half scholarships are available for local residents in need.

Lodging

Beyond the usual VRBO and AirBnB, Silverton/New Denver offers a variety of lodging choices.

Camping:

There is a Silverton municipal campground a short walk from the workshop facility. Sites are from $25 to $50 with great clean bathrooms (really) and showers. The Lake is right there as well.

Just a few kilometres out of town is Bannock Point, a free provincial campground, also right on Slocan Lake.

Hotels: Be thoughtful of the hotels and book direct, not through an on-line booking agency.
